In May 2012, the Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers (“CFAWL”) was honored with the Partner in Education Award for West Orange County for all of the good work the organization completed at Rock Lake Elementary School. CFAWL member Kayla Mudge attended the award ceremony at Sea World.
For almost a decade, CFAWL has partnered with other organizations to support Rock Lake, during which time the school has risen from being ranked an F school to being ranked as an A school. Gary M. Farmer |
Farmer will lead the organization of approximately 3,000 attorneys founded in 1961 who work in the legislative, political and media arenas to protect the Constitutional right to jury trial and access to courts without barriers or limitations, while ensuring that Floridians know and understand the importance of their rights to justice and to make certain that these rights are safeguarded and protected.
Farmer has been a long-time active member of FJA, serving first on its Board of Directors and then on the Executive Committee before becoming an Officer of the organization and ascending to its Presidency. He is also an EAGLE Legacy and Founder Member (EAGLE members take the critical but necessary step from being a member of the FJA to being a leader and an advocate for public service, setting an example and leaving their mark to protect access to Florida’s courts). He also has been an active volunteer lobbyist who worked only on consumer protections and access to court issues. Over the past seven years, Farmer spent six to seven weeks each year volunteering as a lobbyist in Tallahassee for the FJA.
“The judiciary is arguably the most important branch of government, serving as the great equalizer for all citizens. Justice must be blind to power, wealth or status. It’s imperative that we protect access to the courts and preserve legal protections for all consumers,” states Farmer. “It is a privilege and an honor for me to serve this prestigious organization and I look forward to continuing to protect consumers from laws that would limit their rights and to make positive changes for the citizens of Florida.”
Gary Farmer has spent almost his entire career fighting for the rights of consumers, fair and just compensation for victims, the creation of new law that protects society, and the protection of the civil justice system and full access to the court system. Over the past decade, Gary Farmer has been at the forefront of high-profile consumer litigation in Florida: Whether acting as lead counsel in record setting qui tam recoveries, creating new law and causes of actions for subscribers wrongfully denied coverage by their HMO’s, litigating the “Butterfly Ballot” and absentee voting cases to the Florida Supreme Court during the infamous 2000 election litigation, representing consumers who were deceived by tobacco companies’ deceptive marketing practices involving light cigarettes, or representing patients, consumers and employees wronged by deceptive trade practices.
The Florida Justice Association (FJA) is dedicated to strengthening and upholding Florida's civil justice system and protecting the rights of Florida's citizens and consumers. FJA works in the legislative, political and public arenas to ensure that Floridians know and understand the importance of their rights to justice and to make certain that these rights, which are at the very core of what it means to be American, are safeguarded and protected.
